Paraguayan Carlos Amarilla will be the referee of a Copa América final match for the first time in his career. Amarilla has taken part in two matches in this tournament. One in the first phase, Argentina vs Ecuador, in which the Argentineans hammered the Ecuadorians 6-1, and in the quarterfinals, also in Chiclayo, in which Argentina beat Peru. In that game, he gave captain Roberto Ayala his marching orders.

It will be the third time the Paraguayan will be refereeing a match with Marcelo Bielsa´s side on the pitch and the second time a Paraguayan referee will be conducting a final of Copa América. In the previous edition, in Colombia 2001, Ubaldo Aquino was the referee for the clash between Colombia and Mexico, in the final.
