Argentina played and won their last final in a Copa América 11 years ago, in the tournament held in Ecuador, in 93, at the Barcelona de Guayaquil stadium, beating Mexico 2-1, with a Gabriel Batistuta brace.

Colombia ended a 10-match unbeaten run in the tournament, which helped them clinch the title for the first time in the previous edition, in 2001. But, in 2004, in Peru, they will finish among the four best teams.

Argentina share the record of title wins with Uruguay, a total of 14 each in 40 editions.

The presence in the final in Lima, this Sunday, secures the Argentineans their 24th participation in a final of the South American tournament, which began in 1916.

The feats achieved by the "Albicelestes" in the history of Copa América are impressive: three back-to-back titles (27/29; 57/59; 91/93) and three consecutive titles in 45, 46 and 47.

After taking top honors in Ecuador, in 1993, the Argentineans were always eliminated before the semifinals. In Uruguay 95, they ended 5th; in Bolivia 97, they were 6th, and in Paraguay 99, they placed a disastrous 8th. It is important to remember that in Colombia 2001, Argentina didn´t take part in the competition due to safety reasons.
