Whilst Colombians and Costa Ricans set the examples of Fair Play by finishing the match without any bookings, the Copa América Peru 2004 Disciplinary Committee sanctioned Uruguayan Gustavo Varela and Argentinean Roberto Ayala with a one-match ban for having been sent off after receiving their second yellow cards during their corresponding quarterfinal fixtures on the weekend.
Both players won¿t be allowed to play in the semifinals, to be held at the Nacional Stadium, as of Tuesday, the 20th.
During the quarterfinals, the following players were also booked: Uruguayans Alejandro Lago, Javier Delgado and Dario Silva; and Brazilians Kleberson and Edu.
