The Peruvian National squad arrived in Chiclayo, where they will meet Argentina in the quarterfinals of the Copa América, this Saturday. Flavio Maestri is sidelined by injury.
After a 3-hour bus trip from Trujillo, the national team arrived in Chiclayo at 8:06 pm, this Thursday. Paulo Autuori¿s men were welcomed in festive mood.
However, despite the joyful atmosphere at the Peruvian camp, Flavio Maestri will not recover from his left leg injury in time.
During a training session, in Trujillo, the striker pushed too hard and felt the injury. He was taken to a local clinic and underwent an MRI to assess the extension of the injury.
Defender Miguel Rebosio was also examined and has recovered from his hurt left knee. The National team defender showed a lot of determination during training.
Juan Jayo and Guillermo Salas also trained well and are fit for the match. The news in the starting lineup is the presence of Carlos Zegarra, who will strengthen the defensive system alongside Jayo and Soto.
In the last training session held in the ¿City of Spring¿, coach Autuori worked on the speed of the moves with short-distance passing. Today, the Peruvians will hold their first training at the Elias Aguirre Stadium, venue for the match that will take place at 5 pm on Saturday, against Argentina, opening the quarterfinal phase.
Peru¿s most probable lineup will be Ibáñez in goal; Salas, Rebosio, Acasiete and Vílchez in defence; Jayo, Zegarra, Soto e Solano in midfield, Palacios up front, with Mendoza wide open.
